Report: Jaguars planning to hire Doug Marrone as head coach
The Jacksonville Jaguars are planning to name Doug Marrone as the club's full-time head coach heading into 2017, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
After meeting with a number of candidates in search of a replacement for Gus Bradley, Jacksonville elects to make the internal hire and promote Marrone from his interim position.
The 52-year-old has spent each of the past two seasons working with the offensive line and serving as the assistant head coach on Bradley's staff.
A surprise decision to opt out of his contract as head coach of the Buffalo Bills led to him taking a demotion of sorts to catch on in Jacksonville, but Marrone has long been thought to be deserving of another opportunity in a lead job.
The Jaguars turned in a pair of promising efforts after the December firing of Bradley led to him taking over on an interim basis, closing out the otherwise frustrating year with a 1-1 record.
Marrone had led Buffalo to a 15-17 mark across two seasons before a change in ownership gave him the opportunity to move on at the end of the 2014 campaign.
