The San Francisco 49ers placed receiver Bruce Ellington on season-ending injured reserve after suffering a torn hamstring, the team announced Tuesday.
Ellington was expected to be one of the team's top three receivers this season. He made 13 catches for 153 yards and contributed mainly as a kick returner last year.
The 49ers acquired receiver Jeremy Kerley from the Detroit Lions on Monday to make up for the anticipated loss.
