Funchess: Panthers boast NFL's best WR group
Coming off a 15-1 season, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess isn't lacking confidence entering his second professional campaign.
The Panthers averaged a league-best 31.3 points per game, and Funchess bragged Thursday about the team's receiving corps with the 2016 season on the horizon.
"We know we have the best (receiving) corps in the National Football League," Funchess told reporters.
"We've got a dangerous offense, just like last year, the No. 1 offense. We're just trying to keep that up and keep it going."
Funchess immersed himself well into the Panthers' lineup in 2015, recording 31 receptions for 473 yards and five touchdowns during his rookie year. After spending a year with the Panthers, Funchess is displaying better route recognition and is in sync with the rest of the group.
"Yesterday, there was a nasty lineup, me, (Kelvin Benjamin), Ted (Ginn), and Greg (Olsen)," Funchess said. "So they got to double somebody. Cam missed it. We ran it back and we still (were) open. It's going to be difficult for the defenses to see what's really going on."
Reigning MVP Cam Newton is under center and Funchess and the Panthers have every reason to be confident going into the season. With Kelvin Benjamin returning to the lineup from a torn ACL, the Panthers' offense could be even more prolific in 2016.
