Cam Newton named NFL's highest-paid athlete by Forbes
Forbes Magazine released their annual list of "The World's Highest-Paid Athletes" on Wednesday, and, as per usual, the names of the NFL's elite are littered throughout.
While no NFLers cracked the top five, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was the highest-paid American footballer on the list with a total earnings of $53.1 million.
Quarterbacks Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, and Tom Brady came in at the 13th, 14th, and 15th spots, respectively, with incomes ranging between $44.1 million and $45 million.
Russell Wilson ($41.8 million) and Philip Rivers ($38 million) rounded out the top 20 spots at number 18 and 20, respectively.
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was the highest-paid non-quarterback earning $35.2 million, good enough for the 26th overall position.
