Former NFL head coach and commentator John Madden has some advice for Peyton Manning as the recently retired quarterback begins the next phase of his career: become a general manager or owner.

A source told The Big Lead's Jason McIntyre that Madden advised Manning to stay out of broadcasting and pursue a job in the front office or on the ownership team of an NFL franchise.

Manning seemingly has unlimited options for his next job. The Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns are both rumored to be interested in giving Manning a stake in ownership, and every NFL broadcasting partner is rumored to be willing to give Manning a blank check to get him on their team.

Manning hasn't given any indication of what he wants to do next, but Madden's advice seems to make sense. For someone as competitive as Manning, a career in broadcasting may not be satisfying.

Manning followed in the footsteps of Broncos general manager John Elway on the field, retiring as a Super Bowl champion. So, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him follow in Elway's footsteps off the field and try to get control of a team's football operations.
