Muhamed Besic extends Everton stay

Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic has extended his contract at Goodison Park, signing a new five-and-a-half year deal that'll keep him with the club until June 2021.

The 23-year-old is the Toffees' reigning Player of the Month in his second season with the club after joining from Hungarian side Ferencvaros in July 2014.

It wasn't easy for Besic to adjust to the pace and power of Premier League football, and his second season has been sidetracked by a thigh concern that's sidelined him since Nov. 2.

"When I first arrived here it was difficult for me, but now I feel at home. The supporters, as well as the manager, the staff and my teammates, have all made me welcome at the club and I feel really happy," Besic told the club's website Monday.

Even with injuries hampering his 2015-16 campaign, Besic has emerged as one of the better midfielders in Roberto Martinez's squad, crediting hard work for his progression.

"When people look at my game, before and now, I think I have improved a lot in many different areas," he said. "But, like you have seen, I am still adapting to the league and I will continue to work hard and give my best."

The 23-time capped Bosnian international hasn't played for Everton since limping off against Swansea City at the end of January, and won't be fit for Tuesday's trip to Aston Villa.

"Mo Besic has been working with the group for two days and we are going to assess him (Tuesday) to make sure he can be available for the West Ham game. I don't think he will be available for Aston Villa," Martinez told evertonfc.com.
