Hitters

C Chris Iannetta

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 31 58 9 34 1
Steamer 30 53 8 29 2
Zeile 37 60 9 32 2

Iannetta joined the Mariners via free agency this offseason to take over as the starting catcher. He hasn't topped 15 home runs since 2009 and turns 33 in early-April. His lack of power and inability to hit for average makes him a C2 in AL-only leagues and undraftable in mixed formats.

1B Adam Lind

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 51 108 12 57 0
Steamer 55 115 15 59 1
Zeile 66 131 17 66 1

The long-time Blue Jay was a fantasy revelation for the Brewers last season, knocking in 87 runs while belting 20 homers. ZiPS and Steamer have projected him to regress this season, while Zeile believes he will have no trouble repeating last year's slash line. Lind is a great bench option at 1B in standard fantasy league formats.

2B Robinson Cano

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 77 170 17 79 5
Steamer 76 167 18 81 5
Zeile 81 170 19 81 5

Cano has failed to rekindle his heavy-hitter days with the Yankees, where he combined for 117 HRs and 428 RBIs from 2010-2013. He's well worth starting at 2B on season-long rosters and has been given much needed help at the top of the order with SS Ketel Marte showing promise as a lead-off hitter.

3B Kyle Seager

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 82 156 24 83 8
Steamer 77 151 22 80 7
Zeile 80 154 23 81 7

The Mariners' top of the order will be must-haves in season-long leagues, with Seager the top option. He was one of the team's leading home run hitters a year ago and is a top-5 fantasy 3B. He will likely hit in the fifth spot behind DH Nelson Cruz.

SS Ketel Marte

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 64 144 6 47 24
Steamer 57 135 5 57 22
Zeile 61 139 5 47 22

Marte was promoted to the big team in early-August and should bring energy to a lifeless Mariners lineup. He has 25-steal upside and hitting in the second spot as a switch hitter could increase his RBI totals. He will be available in the later rounds of redrafts and could be a fantasy sleeper.

LF Nori Aoki

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 54 118 5 32 14
Steamer 63 133 6 43 15
Zeile 63 136 6 46 16

Aoki, who was acquired via free agency, brings stability to an outfield that has been a revolving door. Though he's projected to bat first, he isn't worth a draft pick in shallow leagues but is better suited as a viable waiver wire pick up if the bats in Seattle stay hot.

CF Leonys Martin

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 48 101 8 37 23
Steamer 49 108 8 45 22
Zeile 54 115 8 46 25

The former Texas Ranger is expected to start in CF, but hitting at the bottom of the Mariners' top-heavy batting order hinders Martin's fantasy value. He's never reached double digits in home runs and shouldn't be drafted in any fantasy league.

RF Seth Smith

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 51 91 11 41 0
Steamer 48 96 11 47 1
Zeile 52 96 11 46 1

Smith is coming off a subpar 2015 by his standards, and enters this season at 33. Playing at Safeco Field will hinder his fantasy production and limit his already-capped ceiling. He should be an afterthought in all formats.

DH Nelson Cruz

SOURCE R H HR RBI SB
ZiPS 72 143 33 84 4
Steamer 77 141 31 93 3
Zeile 83 147 34 94 3

Though ZiPS has Cruz tailing off drastically, the 36-year-old has proven the past two years he can still swing it with considerable power, posting back-to-back 40-HR seasons. He'll see a dip in ADP in redrafts, though owners should bank on Cruz not missing a step and hammering out at least 30 HR.

Starters

RHP Felix Hernandez

SOURCE GS IP K BB ERA
ZiPS 30 200.3 203 49 3.14
Steamer 32 208 202 10 3.18
Zeile 32 208 205 52 3.12

Hernandez comes into this season with more concerns than in years past - his ERA jumped nearly 1 1/2 points, and his K rate was its lowest since 2010. That said, he's still an elite pitcher and is worthy of a third- or fourth-round pick in redraft leagues.

RHP Hisashi Iwakuma

SOURCE GS IP K BB ERA
ZiPS 24 147.7 126 24 3.72
Steamer 28 168 137 30 3.43
Zeile 28 156 129 26 3.41

After posting an exceptional 2.66 ERA in 2013, Iwakuma has had back-to-back campaigns with a 3.50+ ERA. Despite his mediocre ERA, the Japanese pitcher has won 38 games and lost just 20 in that span. With added run support in Seattle, Iwakuma should be drafted in the middle rounds.

LHP Wade Miley

SOURCE GS IP K BB ERA
ZiPS 30 179 146 62 4.27
Steamer 29 175 133 57 4.00
Zeile 29 186 146 62 4.03

Miley adds a much needed lefty arm to the rotation, though he has the tendency to be shelled from time to time. He's an average starter at best despite his high-velocity cutter, and should be left alone in fantasy leagues.

RHP Taijuan Walker

SOURCE GS IP K BB ERA
ZiPS 25 145.3 135 41 4.33
Steamer 31 184 172 55 3.68
Zeile 31 184 172 53 3.62

With a full major-league season under his belt, Walker is expected to be a fixture in the starting rotation. The 23-year-old is a decent late-round flier in season-long leagues, armed with a four-seam fastball/splitter combination that will give opposing batters headaches.

RHP Nate Karns

SOURCE GS IP K BB ERA
ZiPS 25 139.3 136 54 4.39
Steamer 23 128 115 47 4.07
Zeile 23 142 130 54 4.07

Karns has a decent K rate, but doesn't have much else working for him and will likely be the first starter bumped if he struggles. He possesses little to no fantasy value.

Closer

RHP Steve Cishek

SOURCE G IP K BB ERA
ZiPS 64 61.7 63 23 3.50
Steamer 65 65 57 24 3.85
Zeile 65 62 59 24 3.59

Cishek is no stranger to the closer role, recording back-to-back 30-save seasons in 2013 and 2014. He has proven to be a quality fantasy closer, though he does carry some risk and should be drafted as an RP2.
