Temple promotes Glenn Thomas to offensive coordinator

Temple is staying in house to hire its new offensive coordinator, as head coach Matt Rhule has promoted quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas to the position, the school confirmed.

Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated reported the move early Thursday morning.

"I'm excited about this opportunity," Thomas said in a statement. "My family is excited to stay here in Philadelphia. We have a great staff here and a lot of talented student-athletes that we get to work with everyday. I expect a seamless transition so that we can continue to build upon the foundation that is in place."

Thomas spent seven seasons on the coaching staff of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons before coming to Owls. Starting pivot P.J. Walker enjoyed a fine junior season under his tutelage, throwing for 2,973 yards with 19 touchdowns to eight interceptions.

"Coach Thomas really helped me last year in terms of understanding my role," said Walker. "Why throwing the ball away or escaping the pocket might be a better decision for a quarterback than trying to make a play downfield. He has incredible knowledge of the offense and an ease in being able to share it."

Temple's offensive coordinator job became vacant when Marcus Satterfield was hired as the head coach at Tennessee Tech.

The Owls are coming off a strong 2015 campaign. They spent a significant portion of the year in the top 25, and finished with a 10-4 record despite a loss in the Boca Raton Bowl to Toledo.
