Indiana kicker responds to controversial missed field goal
Rich Barnes / USA TODAY Sports
Indiana lost the Pinstripe Bowl to Duke on Saturday, and like many of the Hoosiers' losses this year, it happened in heart-wrenching fashion.
Trailing by three in overtime, kicker Griffin Oakes attempted a 38-yard field goal that would have tied the game. The ball soared directly over the right upright, and Oakes began celebrating as if he had made it, but the officials declared it no good.
Oakes then rushed to the officials to demand an explanation, but the play was not reviewable, and Indiana fell 44-41.
On Sunday, Oakes took the blame off the officials, and pinned it solely on himself:

Oakes is a sophomore, so he'll have plenty of time to make up for the controversial miss. He converted 24 of his 29 field-goal attempts this year.
