The Seattle Seahawks have parted ways with wide receiver Chris Matthews, the team announced Tuesday.
Matthews had the game of his life on the biggest stage of them all, catching four passes for 109 yards, and a touchdown in the Seahawks' Super Bowl XLIX loss to the New England Patriots.
The 26-year-old also recovered an onside kick against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game.
Unfortunately, Matthews wasn't able to carve out a role for himself in the Seahawks' offense, catching only four passes this season.
In a corresponding move, the Seahawks promoted wide receiver Kevin Smith from their practice squad.
Smith was an undrafted free agent in 2014, and could bring value as a kick returner.
