Georgia AD denies wanting to fire Mark Richt last year
Turmoil surrounding Georgia coach Mark Richt's job status continued to swirl Thursday, with a report from Dan Wolken of USA Today on Thursday that stated athletic director Greg McGarity "favored" a coaching change after last season.
McGarity categorically denied the report that he was overruled by school President Jere Morehead Thursday afternoon.
"Simple answer. It wasn't true," McGarity told DawgNation.com in a text message. McGarity repeated his denial to Wolken, saying: "There isn't one ounce of truth to that. That is not right."
Georgia won the 2014 Belk Bowl to finish last season at 10-3, the ninth year the team has registered double-digit wins under Richt. To reach that mark again this season, the 5-3 Bulldogs would have to run the table.
