The 20-year-old Dutch Under-21 international joins manager Quique Sanchez Flores' first-team squad following a short loan spell last season with Championship side Reading, where he made five appearances for the club.
Ake joined Chelsea in 2011 after four years as a member of Feyenoord's youth system, making his Premier League debut for the Blues in 2012 as an added-time substitute.
He has since featured in 12 matches for Chelsea with appearances in the league and continental experiences in both the Champions League and Europa League.

The versatile midfielder should see minutes for Watford deputizing in a deep midfield role for either Etienne Capoue or Valon Behrami, as gaffer Flores adds the young Dutchmen to the two aforementioned summer signings to give the Hornets plenty of depth in the middle of the park.
