Report: Jonathan Bernier seeking long-term deal from Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs could be heading for an old fashioned stand off with Jonathan Bernier.
The restricted free agent goalie is seeking a long-term contract from the club following the expiration of his previous two-year, $5.8-million deal, according to Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun.
For their part, the Maple Leafs have reportedly filed for salary arbitration, with a walk away option should it be deemed Bernier is indeed in line for a raise.
While a deal could be reached prior to the hearing later this summer, the matter is complicated by the fact that Bernier's numbers went down in 2014-15 following his first season in Toronto.

This drop can't be pinned solely on Bernier's shoulders, as the team as a whole failed in pretty decisive fashion. Still, it doesn't strengthen his case for a long-term, big-money deal, meaning it may take some time and perhaps even some mediation in order for terms to be agreed upon.
It's one of many decisions facing the Maple Leafs this summer, with the possibility of a trade also floating out there as an option.
