Brewers recall Taylor Jungmann from Triple-A; will make MLB debut Tuesday
Taylor Jungmann will get his first chance to endear himself to the Milwaukee Brewers when he makes his MLB debut Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
Recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs prior to Tuesday's contest, Jungmann knows he could be optioned back to the minor leagues after his debut, but Brewers manager Craig Counsell noted that isn't a guarantee.
"We're open to performance surprising us," Counsell told MLB.com's John McGonigal on Monday. "We're getting looks at these guys. I don't know what a fair look is, but it's the big leagues, and you have to perform in those looks."
Selected in the 12th round of the 2012 draft, Jungmann struggled in Colorado Springs prior to being recalled, managing an ugly 6.37 ERA with a 1.52 WHIP over nine starts and two relief appearances. The 25-year-old notched 54 strikeouts over 59 1/3 innings, however, while allowing just two home runs in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League before being promoted.
The Brewers optioned infielder Luis Sardinas to Colorado Springs to create a spot for Jungmann on the 25-man roster.
