Tony Allen on MVP Stephen Curry's skills: 'Ain't nothing I ain't never seen before'

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Tony Allen is throwing a touch of shade on Stephen Curry's NBA Most Valuable Player award.

Anyone who was surprised the Golden State Warriors star point guard was named the top player in the league wasn't paying much attention this year. No player outperformed Curry in steals, made 3-pointers or free-throw percentage (91.4 percent). Curry sank 286 from beyond the arc to set the league record for threes in one season, breaking his own record from 2013-14, and averaged 23.8 points to help the Warriors achieve a league-best 67-15 record.

"I don't get a vote, but I acknowledge his MVP status," Allen told reporters after practice on Monday. "It's well-deserved, I wasn't surprised."

Still, the Memphis Grizzlies forward, whose team is 0-1 so far in this playoff semifinal series against the Warriors, doesn't seem impressed by Curry's skills.

"He can shoot the ball pretty good and he got a nice handle," Allen responded when asked about the traits that make Curry special.

"But it ain't nothing I ain't never seen before."

Curry gave Allen plenty to see in Game 1, posting 22 points, seven assists, four steals and two rebounds.

Then again, Allen gave us something new too: a casual saunter through a children's performance.
