The New York Jets have selected linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin out of Louisville in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
New York traded its original third-round pick (70th overall, where the Houston Texans selected Jaelen Strong) for Houston's 3rd-round pick (82nd, Mauldin), fifth-round pick (152nd overall), seventh-round pick (229th overall) and wide receiver DeVier Posey.
Mauldin could start his career as a 3-4 outside linebacker as part of a revamped Jets' defense. The 6-foot-4 Louisville product possesses excellent closing speed for a player his size.

Strengths
- Has the ability to both set the edge against the run on the play side and chase a play down from the back side to make a tackle.
- Quick first step with the closing speed to pursue and finish a play in the backfield.
- Can line up in either a two-point stance or with his hand in the dirt, but current size and frame make him a strong fit for a 3-4 outside linebacker role early on in his career.
Weaknesses
- Doesn't have an overly impressive array of pass-rush moves, and will need development in that area to create any sort of consistent pressure in the NFL.
- Lack of explosiveness and change-of-direction skills may limit his ability to rush the passer against better competition.
- Size could prevent him from contributing at the same level against the run.
