Kansas's Cliff Alexander to declare for NBA draft
Kansas forward Cliff Alexander will not be looking to restart his collegiate career as a sophomore, he's moving on to the next level.
The 6-foot-8, 240 pounder, who didn't play in the NCAA tournament due to allegations of receiving impermissible benefits, will declare for the NBA draft, the school announced on Tuesday.
"This should come as no surprise to anybody," said head coach Bill Self. "We all feel bad for Cliff for what he and our team had to go through because it was difficult for him to sit and watch his teammates play without him. During his time here, Cliff certainly got better. I loved coaching Cliff, but we support his decision 100 percent to move on and take his ability to the next level."
Alexander, who played his last game on Feb. 23, averaged 7.1 points with 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in his freshman season.
It was alleged that his mother and a loan firm had a connection, prompting him to be ruled ineligible.
Alexander, lauded for his energy and physicality, had a career-high 13 rebounds in an 85-78 win over Oklahoma on Jan. 19.
He sports a 7-foot-2-inch wingspan.
