VIDEO: Gronkowski on Super Bowl brawl: 'Screw it, I'm throwing some haymakers'
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was making the media rounds Monday night, basking in the glory of his team's Super Bowl championship.
He talked about the brawl that marred the end of Sunday night's game on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live":
"I got pushed or something, and it was the last game of the year," he said, "and I was like, 'Screw it, I'm throwing some haymakers.'"
It won't be long before that phrase is on a t-shirt.
Asked if he threw any punches in the fight, Gronkowski couldn't remember, until he did.
"I don't think I did," he said. "Roger, no I did not," he added with a smile, referring to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. "Roger, that wasn't me."
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin played a significant part in the mess, punching Gronkowski, which escalated things. Irvin said he was protecting his teammates, as did Gronkowski.
Gronkowski shook it off in the end:
They just started coming at us. We were just trying to take a knee. Just happens, it's football, just emotions going. It's football, things happen. It's all good. I mean, it's all good. They played ball, they're a hardworking team and we just came out and did what we did to get the win.
