Report: NFL to experiment with goal post width at Pro Bowl

Douglas C. Pizac / US PRESSWIRE

With kickers converting on their field-goal attempts almost too easily at times, the NFL is looking into making some rule changes moving forward.

The league will experiment with the distance between field-goal posts in January's Pro Bowl, moving the width from 18.5' in to 14', as reported by Jay Glazer on "FOX NFL Sunday."

As Glazer indicated, what seems like a minor detail is actually rather ground breaking. A permanent change would be the first time the distance between the field-goal posts is moved since 1920.

Of course, any adjustments would be pending the planned experiment, so the kicking game may actually be of some significant interest in the Pro Bowl next month.
