Wizards' Nene likely out vs. Hawks, could miss more time
The Washington Wizards are going to have to make due without their starting center.
Nene, who is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, will not play against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday in the teams' Southeast Division clash, according to CSN Washington's J. Michael. It's unlikely Nene will play Wednesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, either.
The Wizards have listed him as questionable for Tuesday's game.
Head coach Randy Wittman said Monday that he believes the injury is a day-to-day type issue. Wizards fans will no doubt be concerned, however, given Nene's inability to stay healthy.
Last season, the Wizards big man dealt with issues in the same foot and missed more than a quarter of the season due to a sprained knee. Two seasons ago, Nene missed time with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Overall, he's misses 78 games over the previous three seasons.
Nene is averaging a modest 10.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals through 11 games so far this season, but his impact may be better represented in his on-court/off-court metrics.
The Wizards have allowed 106.3 points per 100 possessions with Nene on the bench compared to only 91.3 with Nene on the court, according to NBA.com. Overall, the team performs 8.1 points per 100 possessions better with Nene in the game.
