John Stones suffers ankle ligament injury, will likely miss England's Euro 2016 qualifiers

When you consider that Everton's backline have conceded more goals than any other Premier League side, this is not the type of injury that the Toffees can afford to suffer.

After John Stones exited the pitch on a stretcher in the final moments of Everton's 2-1 loss versus Manchester United on Sunday, manager Roberto Martinez provided a grim injury update on the defender: "I do not expect John to be available for the next few weeks."

Stones, who was called up for England's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers, will now almost certainly be unable to feature against San Marino on Oct. 9 and Estonia on Oct. 12, leaving Roy Hodgson with only two out-and-out centre-backs in Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill.

Calum Chambers will likely be called up in Stones' place as Hodgson said last week that the Arsenal defender "would be the next one" to enter the squad in the event of an injury.
