Bob Suter, a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic "Miracle On Ice" hockey team, died of an apparent heart attack at the age of 57 on Tuesday.

Immediately after the news was made public, tributes began popping up on social media from all areas of the hockey world, beginning with USA Hockey.

The following statement was posted on the USA Hockey website:

“It’s a tough day for our sport, having lost a great friend and ambassador of the game. Bob Suter will always be remembered for his role as a member of the 1980 Miracle on Ice Team that captivated our country and whose impact is impossible to measure. His legacy, however, is far beyond that as he dedicated his life to advancing hockey and helping young people achieve their dreams. Bob’s positive impact on our sport will be felt for generations to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Suter family at this difficult time.”

1980 Olympic captain Mike Eruzione expressed his condolences, paying his respects to the first member of the legendary squad to pass away.

The Madison, Wis., native (and father to Ryan Suter of the Minnesota Wild) played a big part in the lives of two prominent natives of the same town, who each shared their thoughts on Twitter.

The Wild also posted this photo of Bob and Ryan Suter, with a statement that can be read in the link below.
