Report: Redblacks offering Weston Dressler $250K contract
As many as five teams are reportedly interested in the services of slotback Weston Dressler, but none are throwing around as much money as the Ottawa Redblacks.
According to the Ottawa Sun, the Redblacks are offering Dressler a contract that will pay him $250,000 per season, which would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the CFL. Argonauts slotback Chad Owens currently holds that distinction, with a salary of slightly more than $200,000.
Consternation in #CFL circles if #RedBlacks make Dressler an offer of $240-250K per season. Would completely upset salary structures.

"We need players like Weston to help us get over the hump," said Redblacks defensive tackle Keith Shologan, who was Dressler's teammate in Saskatchewan. "He'd be an amazing pickup just because he brings the mentality and the attitude you want on a football team."
The CFL salary cap is $5 million for the 2014 season, with a minimum salary of $50,000. Raghib "Rocket" Ismail once earned $18.2 million over four years playing for the Toronto Argonauts in the 1990s thanks to the CFL's "marquee player" exemption, which allowed Toronto to sign Ismail for a higher annual value ($4.55 million) than the team's entire salary cap ($3.8 million). The league removed the marquee player exemption in 1995.
