VIDEO: Jon Jones says knee surgery was a success; Cormier has knee injury, too
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, and the 14-1 Jackson's MMA fighter said immediately following the procedure that it was a success.
He did so via a very strange Instagram video where it certainly seems as if the anesthetic hadn't worn off yet:
The injury forced Jones to push back his upcoming title defense against the undefeated Daniel Cormier, moving the fight from Sept. 27 at UFC 178 to UFC 182 on Jan. 3. Their rivalry had been quickly picking up steam, with a brawl at a press conference and some unkind words traded on several occasions.
Cormier revealed earlier this week that he, too, has an injured knee, but it's something he was planning on fighting through to keep his title shot.
"I would be outside of myself to not say I went into this fight knowing my knee was pretty jacked up, and I was going to fight through it to get a title," he said.
So, while it's disappointing that the fight has been pushed back a few months, at least we should get both fighters at 100 percent health now. No excuses.
