Titans WRs coach: Justin Hunter 'can be the receiver that puts us in the playoffs'
Tennessee Titans wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson is expecting big things from second-year wideout Justin Hunter. Very big things.
"He can be the receiver that puts us in the playoffs, and helps us win our division," Jefferson said of Hunter, via The Tennessean. "With the growth he is going to go through, if he can keep progressing he can be the receiver that puts us over the edge. He has that much potential."
The Titans liked what they saw from Hunter prior to the 2013 draft, trading up in the second round to select him with the No. 34 overall pick.
Hunter flashed moments of elite athleticism as a rookie, but also revealed how raw he remains.
Jefferson says Hunter is maturing both mentally and, perhaps more importantly, physically. Per The Tennessean, Hunter has added 15 pounds to his wiry frame this offseason.
Hunter could still be a year or two away from reaching his potential - if he ever gets there - but he has raw physical tools similar to A.J. Green. If the Titans really do make the playoffs, it won't be a surprise to see Hunter make key contributions.
