Nadal advances to French Open semis after beating Ferrer in 2013 finals rematch
David Ferrer got off to a promising start against countryman Rafael Nadal, coming into the first set with more energy and focus, ultimately stealing it 6-4. It was the first set he'd ever taken from Nadal at Roland Garros, after dropping the first nine they'd played here.
It was all he would get on this day. Nadal keyed in and completely took over from there, playing some of the most dazzlingly precise tennis you will ever see, and ripping off the next three sets to walk off with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Nadal converted nine of his 14 break points, while saving 11 of 14 break chances on his own serve. He won more than half of his receiving points. And in the final two sets, he made a total of three unforced errors. It was his 22nd win in 28 matches against Ferrer, and his 18th in 20 on clay.
Nadal improved to 64-1 at Roland Garros.
