VIDEO: Canadiens D Murray given match penalty for hit on Lightning D Kostka

Jeff Griffith / USA Today

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Douglas Murray was assessed a match penalty late in the third period of Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning for a hit to the head of defenseman Mike Kostka.

A stretcher was initially brought out onto the ice as Kostka lay motionless, but the blue-liner eventually got to his feet and skated off under his own power.

Kostka passes the puck as he enters Montreal's zone and is stood up by Murray, who appears to raise his elbow prior to contact:

NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan will likely see plenty of this hit in the coming days. Murray, who has no prior suspensions on his NHL ledger, is suspended indefinitely pending a hearing regarding the incident.
