Capitals forwards Joel Ward, Jason Chimera mock local broadcasters

Mike Vogel and John Walton work on the content side for the Washington Capitals. Vogel is a senior editor and content strategist, while Walton does play-by-play, both broadcast and radio, for the club. During the season the two affable hockey analysts come together to film regular short video clips intended for the web, that are dubbed "The Two-Man Advantage."

Tuesday's April Fools Day episode of "The Two-Man Advantage" came with a twist, with the roles of Walton and Vogel filled by good natured impostors. Captials forwards Jason Chimera and Joel Ward played the roles of Vogel and Walton, and skewered the in-house media personalities at length.

Vogel got the rougher ride of the two, as Chimera really committed to the role. The Capitals checking forward portrayed Walton with a high-pitched squeal as he quoted inaccessible statistics nonsensically. Ward meanwhile sported a skull cap, and aped Walton's go-to catch phrase.

On the ice, Ward and Chimera are an excellent duo in tough minutes. In front of the camera, they're completely unable to keep a straight face:

If you'd like to adjudicate the accuracy of Chimera and Ward's respective impressions, so do by watching this "Two-Man Advantage" segment from earlier in the season:

Media types and hockey fans often make fun of the particular eccentricities and cadences of professional hockey player speak, "we're just going to focus on the little things, get pucks deep, and take it shift by shift and game by game," for example. It's interesting, surely, to see a couple of NHL players turn the tables.

In reaction to the skit, one Capitals fan rather impolitely expressed his hope that Vogel might now realize that his "silver fox" haircut, as Chimera described it in the video, isn't working for him. Vogel was sufficiently amused by the comment to give it a self-deprecatory retweet.
