Hawks waive Antawn Jamison one day after acquiring him
One day after acquiring him from the Los Angeles Clippers, the Atlanta Hawks have waived veteran wing Antawn Jamison.
This is hardly a surprising move, as the initial transaction was entirely fiscal, as explained in more detail below. Basically, the Clippers paid the Hawks to take on Jamison's salary, saving the Clippers on luxury tax payments in the process.
The 37-year-old veteran is now free to sign with any team except the Clippers for a stretch run, though it's unclear if there will be much of a market for his services. Even on the wing-thin Clippers, Jamison managed just 11.3 minutes in 22 games, averaging 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds.
The loss of the ability to hit the triple looms as a potential deterrent to interested teams, too, but these kind of veterans tend to be picked up more often than logic would dictate.
