Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain sustained a UCL tear in his right thumb during a workout Thursday, the team announced.
McCain and the 76ers are working with specialists to decide how they'll proceed.
Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes could see an uptick in minutes should McCain miss an extended period. However, Grimes remains a restricted free agent and is reportedly "very far apart" on a new deal with the club.
McCain missed most of his rookie campaign due to a meniscus tear in his left knee.
The Duke product was off to a promising start prior to being sidelined, averaging 15.3 points and shooting 38.3% from beyond the arc through his first 23 appearances.
Philadelphia drafted McCain with the No. 16 overall pick last year.
