The Atlanta Braves designated outfielder Alex Verdugo for assignment Wednesday and reinstated outfielder Jurickson Profar.
Verdugo slashed .239/.296/.289 with 10 doubles and 12 RBIs after the Braves signed him to a one-year, $1.5-million deal in March. The veteran outfielder's .585 OPS (65 OPS+) was a career low.
Profar returns to the majors after serving an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.
The Braves signed the 32-year-old to a three-year, $42-million deal in January.
Atlanta also placed right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach on the injured list with a fractured right elbow, reinstated right-hander Daysbel Hernández from the IL, and optioned right-hander Kevin Herget to Triple-A.
