Giants exercise Melvin's 2026 option: 'A lot of unfinished business'

The San Francisco Giants exercised manager Bob Melvin's option for next season.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this group," Melvin said in a statement Tuesday. "I believe in what we're building here. ... We have a lot of unfinished business this year, and I'm looking forward to the work ahead."

Melvin owns a 125-122 record since joining the Giants in October 2023. The club is 45-40 this season, sitting eight games behind the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers and 1.5 games out of a wild-card spot.

"His leadership, preparation, and connection with our players have been invaluable, and we believe he's the right person to continue guiding this team forward," Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said.

The 63-year-old Melvin is 1,642-1,547 over his 22-year career with the Giants, Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Diego Padres. He's a three-time Manager of the Year (2007, 2012, 2018).
