Tanev suffers upper-body injury in Leafs' win vs. Bruins

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev didn't return to Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win against the Boston Bruins after suffering an upper-body injury in the first period.

Tanev suffered the injury during his second shift of the game after taking a hard hit from John Beecher. He exited the ice under his own power before heading to the locker room.

The 35-year-old left TD Garden with his right arm in a sling, per Sportsnet's Luke Fox. Head coach Craig Berube said he'll be evaluated Wednesday.

Tanev has come as advertised after the Maple Leafs signed him as a free agent last offseason. The shutdown defender entered Tuesday ranked second in the NHL with 152 blocked shots and 9.6 defensive goals above replacement, per Evolving-Hockey.

Berube added that William Nylander was held out of overtime due to something bothering him. Nylander logged 21:21 in regulation.
