Raiders OC on QB Freeman: 'I've always been a fan of Josh'
Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olsen held the same position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they drafted quarterback Josh Freeman. Olsen was also the coordinator during Freeman's most productive years.
So it's not exactly a surprise to hear Olsen speak about Freeman in a positive light, something that hasn't been happening a lot lately.
"I've always been a fan of Josh as a person and a player," Olsen said, per CSN Bay Area. "It was unfortunate, for me, to watch what happened in Tampa really over the last couple of years. I've always had the utmost respect for him. I think he's a great player. I feel bad for him and the entire situation and how it's played out... I don't think there are any winners for anybody in that situation."
Freeman had his best year in the NFL in 2010 with Olsen as offensive coordinator. That season he had a completion percentage of 62.8 (a career-high), threw for 3,451 yards, 25 touchdowns and just six interceptions (a career-low).
With Terrelle Pryor and Matt Flynn, the Raiders aren't exactly set at the quarterback position, and head coach Dennis Allen simply said "I don't know" when asked if Oakland would have interest in Freeman.
While it's certainly not an indication the Raiders will be interested in Freeman's services, the fact Allen didn't flat out deny the possibility means there could be a chance.
