Thunder honor late wife of Suns' Monty Williams with vacant seat
The Oklahoma City Thunder honored the late wife of Suns head coach Monty Williams with a heartfelt gesture during Sunday's game against Phoenix.
Williams' wife, Ingrid, died in a multiple-vehicle car crash in Oklahoma City in 2016 while he was working as an assistant coach with the Thunder. With the Suns in town on what would've been Ingrid's birthday, the Thunder kept the seat she used to sit in open for the game.
"Today would've been my wife's birthday and they chose to honor my wife today by not allowing anybody to sit in her seats," Williams said. "When I found out this morning, it really messed me up because it really speaks to how blessed I am to do what I do and work for the people that I work for and know the people that I know and how much they care."
Monty Williams thanked the #Thunder organization for honoring his late wife today by not having anyone sit in seat she sat in when he was an Oklahoma City assistant in 2015-16 season.
