Rangers' Woodward after walk-off: Yankee Stadium's a 'Little League' park

Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward is no fan of Yankee Stadium - or, rather, its (in)famous dimensions.

Woodward's Rangers fell victim to the Bronx ballpark's short porch during the first game of their doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Sunday. Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres walked off Texas with a home run into the right-field bleachers.

The home run didn't sit well with Woodward, who took a shot at the ballpark in between ends of the doubleheader.

"It's a small ballpark. That's an easy out in 99% of ballparks," Woodward told reporters, according to Talkin' Yanks. "The wind wasn't helping today, obviously, but 3-1 count. ... (John) King's one guy that - you put him back out there - you know: OK, he's not going to give up a homer. He just happened to hit it in a Little League ballpark to right field."

Though Yankee Stadium is renowned for its short porch that often turns routine fly balls into home runs, Torres' 369-foot blast would've been a homer in 26 of the 30 ballparks.

Torres wasn't pleased with Woodward's analysis and fired a shot back at the Rangers skipper later in the evening.

"Both teams play in the same ballpark - it's the same dimensions," Torres said, per Lindsey Adler of The Athletic. "I think I feel good to hit a walk-off homer in the Little League ballpark."

Yankees manager Aaron Boone also took umbrage with one particular aspect of Woodward's analysis.

"His math's wrong. There's 30 parks," Boone said, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

After the doubleheader, Woodward explained that his remark was meant as a joke.

"Listen, I love this place. This is like one of the cathedrals in all of sports. … Everybody goes, 'It's got a short right field,'" he said, according to The Athletic's Levi Weaver. "It was more of a joke than anything. We hit one of our own in (the second) game, so I guess karma's funny that way.

"But no, I love this place. It's a beautiful ballpark."
