Titans' Vrabel named Coach of the Year

Mike Vrabel of the Tennessee Titans claimed the Coach of the Year award at the NFL Honors show Thursday.

Vrabel guided the Titans to an AFC-best 12-5 record and the division title in 2021 despite a slew of injuries. Tennessee used 89 different players throughout the campaign, setting a new NFL single-season record.

The most prominent absence the Vrabel-led Titans had to overcome was that of superstar running back Derrick Henry. He appeared in only eight regular-season games due to a foot injury he suffered in Week 8. Tennessee's offensive production dropped without Henry, but the team finished the season on a 6-3 run to clinch home-field advantage in the playoffs.

The Titans' offense ranked 15th in points in 2021, while their defense was the sixth best in scoring.

Vrabel, who owns a 41-24 regular-season record over four seasons in Tennessee, is the first Titans coach ever to win Coach of the Year.

Matt LaFleur of the Green Bay Packers was also a contender for the award after his team posted the league's best record (13-4) during the regular season.
