3 things to know about new Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes
The Los Angeles Dodgers named Brandon Gomes general manager Tuesday, filling a role that was vacant since Farhan Zaidi departed for the San Francisco Giants in 2018.
Here are three things to know about the Dodgers' newly minted GM:
Former AGM
Before the club appointed him general manager, Gomes spent the past three seasons as Los Angeles' assistant general manager under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.
Promoting Gomes to GM was not the only move the front office made, with the Dodgers also adding a pair of new assistant general managers.
L.A. elevated director of baseball operations Alex Slater - who has been with the organization since 2014 - to the role, while Washington Football Team chief legal officer Damon Jones joins the franchise as the other assistant general manager.
Pitched in the majors
Gomes was quite familiar with Friedman before joining the Dodgers' front office after spending five campaigns with the Tampa Bay Rays as a reliever during Friedman's tenure as the team's general manager.

The 37-year-old appeared in 173 games for the Rays from 2011-2015, going 11-12 with a 4.27 ERA, 4.76 FIP, and 144 strikeouts in 167 innings.
Expectations will be high
L.A. has qualified for the playoffs in nine consecutive seasons, including the last seven under Friedman.
Friedman, Gomes, and the rest of the executives will have to address the holes left after the departures of Max Scherzer, Corey Seager, and Joe Kelly while also making decisions on free-agent pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen.
Gomes will be stepping into the spotlight as a first-year general manager for a club that has advanced to the National League Championship Series in five of the past six campaigns and won the 2020 World Series.
