Report: MLB proposes replacing arbitration with WAR-based pay
Major League Baseball wants to eliminate salary arbitration by paying players prior to free agency based on FanGraphs' WAR, according to Evan Drellich and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The league reportedly made the proposal to the MLBPA on Wednesday. If accepted, it would be included in the next collective bargaining agreement.
A player's career fWAR weighted for recency and the number of years spent in the majors would be included in the formula for calculating pay, according to Drellich and Rosenthal.
MLB's plan would also reportedly allow players to become free agents at the age of 29 1/2, similar to its proposal in August.
A player agent said the new offer has "zero chance" of being accepted by the MLBPA, per Drellich and Rosenthal.
The current CBA expires at 11:59 p.m. ET on Dec. 1.
