Zion's latest scans encourage doctors, no timeline for return

New Orleans Pelicans coach Willie Green says doctors are encouraged by the latest scans performed on Zion Williamson's fractured right foot, according to ESPN's Andrew Lopez.

Williamson has been participating in some drills and will receive additional scans in two-to-three weeks, which will determine a timeline for his return.

The 21-year-old underwent an operation in late September after suffering the injury in the offseason. Pelicans vice president of basketball operations David Griffin initially said the team was "very confident" Williamson would be ready for the start of the 2021-22 season.

Williamson, the 2019 first overall selection, averaged 27 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in his second NBA season following a rookie campaign blighted by injury. The Duke product appeared in just 24 games in 2019-20 after tearing his meniscus during the preseason.

The Zion-less Pelicans currently own a 1-6 record, joint worst in the league, and have lost three straight ahead of Tuesday's visit to the Phoenix Suns.
