Report: Kawhi to re-sign with Clippers
Kawhi Leonard will stay at home.
The two-time Finals MVP decided to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, sources told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Both parties are reportedly discussing the terms of the contract.
Leonard opted to become a free agent this summer by declining a $36-million player option.
Coming off his 10th NBA season this past year, the 30-year-old is eligible to sign a contract with a maximum starting salary equal to 35% of the cap next season. The league announced Monday that the 2021-22 salary cap is set at $112.4 million, meaning the max Leonard can earn next season is just under $39.4 million.
It's unclear, however, how much Leonard will feature for the Clippers during the upcoming campaign. Los Angeles announced there was no timetable for his return after the five-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year underwent surgery in July to repair a partially torn ACL.
