Report: Celtics ask permission to interview Billups, others for HC job

The Boston Celtics' search for a head coach continues.

After concluding interviews with internal candidates, former coach and newly named president of basketball operations Brad Stevens has requested permission to interview a number of assistant coaches from other organizations, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Among the external candidates the Celtics have broached are Los Angeles Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups, whom the Celtics drafted third overall in 1997.

Other reported candidates include Milwaukee Bucks assistants Darvin Ham and Charles Lee, Dallas Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley, and Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka. Save for Mosely, each coach's team is still active in the 2021 playoffs.

Former Nets and Bucks coach Jason Kidd and ex-Atlanta Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce were previously tied to the Celtics' vacancy.
