McDavid was assessed two minutes for roughing. Kotkaniemi was able to finish the game.
A $5,000 fine - the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement - makes up just 0.04% of McDavid's $14-million total salary this season. That's roughly the equivalent of a $20 fine for someone earning $50,000.
This marks the second time that McDavid has been disciplined in his career, according to Scouting the Refs. He was suspended two games in 2019 for an illegal check to Nick Leddy's head.
