The Dallas Mavericks will now be accepting Dogecoin as a form of payment.

Mavs owner Mark Cuban told the New York Times' DealBook that the team decided to allow fans to pay for tickets and merchandise with the cryptocurrency "because we can!"

"Sometimes in business you have to do things that are fun," he added.

Purchases will be processed through BitPay, a crypto payments company that also handles Bitcoin transactions for the Mavs.

Dogecoin, based on a popular meme of a perplexed Shiba Inu dog, was first introduced in 2013 as a joke. It recently reached a record high after Elon Musk, Snoop Dogg, and other celebrities tweeted about the cryptocurrency.

"For those of you who would like to learn more about Dogecoin, we strongly encourage you to talk to your teenagers who are on TikTok and ask them about it," Cuban said. "They will be able to explain it all to you."
