Jesse Lingard will get a chance to revive his career in London.

West Ham United reached an agreement to sign the English midfielder on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season, the club confirmed Friday.

The deal was struck after West Ham agreed to a £1.5 million loan fee, according to The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg.

The move is a fresh opportunity for Lingard to play regularly after falling down the pecking order under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season. Lingard was limited to just three appearances in all competitions.

"It's exciting," he told West Ham TV. "It's another new chapter in my life. Nothing is guaranteed but I've come here to work hard and help the team and bring my experience. That's the main aim. I just want to enjoy my football and get back playing again and get my feet back on the pitch."

Hammers boss David Moyes reportedly spearheaded West Ham's pursuit of Lingard, who played under the Scottish manager during their brief spell together at United.

Moyes is hopeful Lingard will help improve a squad defying expectations so far this season. West Ham sit fifth in the Premier League table with 35 points after 20 games.

Newcastle United, West Bromwich Albion, and Sheffield United were also reportedly linked to the 28-year-old.

"There were lots of clubs involved but, for me personally, I felt this was the right move," Lingard added. "I've obviously had a previous relationship with the manager as he was at Man U and I've played under him before, so he knows my qualities and what I can bring to the team. I know a couple of the players as well - I know Dec (Rice) very well from the England side - and I feel I can really settle in here quickly."

The temporary deal's confirmation comes after West Ham freed up a spot on the team by making Said Benrahma's loan from Brentford permanent. Since West Ham already have Craig Dawson on a temporary deal from Watford, another spot was needed, as Premier League teams are only allowed two domestic loans at any time.

Lingard featured prominently for United after graduating from the team's esteemed youth academy. He played in an average of 26 Premier League games per season over five years before failing to play a single minute this term.

Lingard's place at the club seemingly dwindled shortly after Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as United boss in December 2018.
