Voting for the 2021 NBA All-Star Game will commence on Thursday, the league announced, despite no assurances the event will be held due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The period for fan voting will conclude at 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 16, with the All-Star starters announced two days later. All-Star reserves will be revealed on Feb. 23.

As always, players and media will join fans in completing ballots to select the All-Star Game starters, with fans accounting for 50% of the vote.

The league's announcement comes days after reports regarding this year's All-Star festivities possibly taking place in Atlanta.

Indianapolis was initially slated to host the exhibition, but those plans were canceled in November 2020 due to the pandemic and scheduling conflicts with the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. The 2024 installment will now be held in Indianapolis.

Reports suggest the league and players' union are discussing plans to hold the All-Star Game on March 6-7 in Atlanta, pledging support for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and local COVID-19 relief. Proposals reportedly include playing the game at an HBCU campus in the Atlanta area.

The NBA will hold an "All-Star break" March 5-10 even if the event doesn't take place, with the regular season resuming on March 11.
