The Chicago Bulls failed to agree on a new deal with forward Lauri Markkanen before Monday evening's rookie extension deadline, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Markkanen will now enter restricted free agency next summer, assuming the Bulls tend a $9-million qualifying offer to him.

The 7-foot forward averaged 14.7 points and 6.3 boards over 50 appearances last season.

Markkanen has shown an ability to stretch the floor early in his career, but has had some troubles staying healthy.

Chicago drafted the Arizona standout with the No. 7 overall pick in 2017.
