The Cincinnati Reds are discussing both Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray in trade talks, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

It was first reported that the Reds were listening to offers for Gray in late November while trying to shed payroll. The 31-year-old right-hander is owed just over $20 million over the next two seasons, and he holds a $12-million team option for 2023. Earlier this week, it was reported that the San Diego Padres are interested in Gray.

Castillo, 28, is surfacing for the first time in the rumor mill. The right-hander is entering his first year of arbitration eligibility, and he's projected to earn between $3 million and $5.8 million next year, according to MLB Trade Rumors. The 2019 All-Star won't be eligible for free agency until after the 2023 campaign.

The asking price is high for the young frontline starter, Heyman adds.

Castillo took another step forward this past year, authoring a 3.21 ERA and 2.65 FIP in 70 innings over 12 starts while serving as a third ace alongside Gray and NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer, who's now a free agent.
