LeBron: 'I'll be good for a very, very long time' thanks to rookie cards
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James could be sitting on several million dollars worth of basketball trading cards.
During a press conference Thursday, James acknowledged how humbling it was to see two of his rookie cards sell for $900,000 and $1.8 million recently given that he grew up poor. He then revealed he has two rookie cards in his possession.
"I think it's pretty cool. That's the first thing I think about, and think about where I come from," James told reporters Thursday. "Hearing those numbers, you didn't hear those numbers much growing up obviously where I'm from.
"And the second thing I think about is that I have two rookie cards of my own. So I'll be good for a very, very long time. No matter what happens, I'm good."
The $1.8-million card set a new record for the most expensive modern-day card when it was auctioned off in July. The record was broken last month by a Giannis Antetokounmpo card that sold for $1.812 million.
