Boone after Jays sweep: 'Sucks when you get your ass kicked'
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone offered a blunt response when asked how he was feeling following a four-game sweep by the Toronto Blue Jays.
"It's not fun going through it. It sucks when you get your ass kicked in a division rival series on the road," Boone said, according to YES Network.
Thursday's 8-5 loss marked the first time the Blue Jays have swept the Yankees in a four-game series at home. The loss dropped New York out of first place in the American League East, one game behind the Canadian club.
The four consecutive losses, three of which came in July, followed a mediocre June for the Bronx Bombers: They posted a .481 winning percentage after entering the month 14 games above .500 and holding a 5.5-game division lead.
"We will get through this. We obviously know we need to play better. We need to do better," Boone added.
"We will stick together through this and embrace the adversity of it. This will make us stronger as we navigate through the season."
The Yankees begin a three-game series at Citi Field against the New York Mets on Friday. The Mets took two of three from the Milwaukee Brewers to begin July after they, too, posted a losing record in June.
